CONGRATULATIONS to Mr. Robert Craig, a member of our parish, who was accepted as a Candidate to study to become a Permanent Deacon in our Diocese of Fall River,  at a special Mass held at St. Mary's Church, New Bedford, this past Tuesday. YOUNG MEMBERS OF OUR PARISH, GRADES 8 - 12, who would like to join us this summer for STEUBENVILLE EAST WEEKEND CONFERENCE, to be held at the University of Rhode Island, Kingston, RI, from July 23 - 25, are asked to get a registration form at the entrance of Church and get it back to Karen ASAP.  The cost is $190.00 per person and includes lodging in the dorms at URI and all meals.  We need a deposit of $50.00 in order to hold a place.   Many of our young people have attended in the past. HOLY FAMILY VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL for our young children will be held this year from Aug. 2 - 6, 9 a.m. - Noon each day.  This year's theme is "RAINFOREST". THEY ARE GOING FAST.  OUR ANNUAL PARISH TRIP TO THE PAWSOX is on Thurs., July 1.  The Game starts at 6:05 p.m. and will be followed by A GREAT FIREWORKS DISPLAY.  Tickets are limited and available on a first come, first served basis.  We are "car pooling" to keep costs down.  If you need a ride, let us know and we will provide one for you. QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CHURCH YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO ASK BUT NEVER DID.  Why should I come to Mass on Sun.?  I don't get anything out of it.  Why do Catholics worship Mary and pray to her?  Isn't Christ our sole mediator between God and Man?  Why can only men be ordained priests?  Isn't this discriminatory against women?  These and many other questions will be dealt with during a series called CATHOLIC ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS to be held at Holy Family Parish Center EACH TUESDAY FROM JUNE 15 UNTIL JULY 13 from 7 - 8 p.m.  The presenters will be from the candidates for the Permanent Diaconate here in our Diocese of Fall River, including our own Bob Craig.  The first session on June 15, given by Paul Levesque , will be "Why is the Church so adamant about the immorality of pre-marital sex?  Why can't two people who love each other express that love physically outside of marriage?  David Murphy will present on "The Church only talks about hell to scare people to do what the Church wants.  Hell doesn't even exist!"  Gary Porter will present on "Why do we baptize babies?  Isn't baptism as sacrament of faith, which obviously babies can't have?  No Pre-Registration required.  ALL ARE WELCOME.

OUR ANNUAL CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL FOR THE DIOCESE OF FALL RIVER is entering its final stages.  A WORD OF THANKS to all who have donated thus far and a final word of encouragement to those who have not yet donated to consider contributing to this very worthwhile cause which helps many people here in our own diocese, including many from our own parish.  As of the printing date of this bulletin, 249 families out of  1518 contacted, have donated at total of $ 22,506.00.  We hope to reach our goal to surpass last year's total of $42,113.85.  If each family contributes something, we will attain that goal.  THANKS.

ON THIS FEAST OF CORPUS CHRISTI, WE WOULD DO WELL TO REMEMBER: The Eucharist is the heart and summit of the Church's life, for in it, Jesus associates His members with His sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. By the consecration at Mass, the transubstantiation of bread and wine into the BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST is accomplished.  As SACRIFICE, the Eucharist is also offered in reparation of the sins of the living and the dead and to obtain spiritual and temporal benefits.  Any Catholic person DESIRING TO RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION WORTHILY MUST BE IN THE STATE OF GRACE.  Since Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist, it is to be honored with the worship of Adoration.  Since the Sunday Eucharist is the belonging and confirmation of all Christian practice, Catholics are obliged to participate.  Participation in the Eucharist is a testimony of belonging and being faithful to Christ and His Church.  Those who deliberately fail in the obligation to participate in Mass on Sunday (or Saturday afternoon) commit a grave sin and must go to confession before receiving Holy Communion.

WHERE DO YOU LOOK WHEN YOU GENUFLECT BEFORE GOING INTO YOUR SEAT AT MASS?  For many years, the Tabernacle (in which the Body and Blood of Jesus is placed) was directly behind the Main Altar.  Thus, we looked straight at the Main Altar when we genuflected.  The Tabernacle now has its own rightful place of honor at the front right hand side of the church (with a proper place to kneel apart from Mass). The "Red" Sanctuary Lamp next to the Tabernacle indicates the presence of Christ.  Thus, when we genuflect, we should do so FACING THE TABERNACLE (and not the Main Altar) for it is there that the Body and Blood of Jesus is placed and it is to that REAL PRESENCE OF JESUS IN THE HOLY EUCHARIST that we are genuflecting.

A REMINDER: Catholic people who live together outside of marriage or who are not validly married in the Church should not receive Holy Communion.  Any person (or couple) who are in those particular circumstances and would like to speak with Fr. Jay about addressing their current situation, are most welcome to do so.  Just give him a call.  Likewise, if anyone has questions about this fundamental teaching of our Church, please do not hesitate to speak with Fr. Jay about them.
