THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION will be celebrated in our Parish this Tuesday, May 19 at 7:00 p.m.  Please pray for the young men and women of our parish who will receive the Gifts of the Holy Spirit in this Sacrament.

MAY IS THE MONTH OF OUR BLESSED MOTHER.  We encourage each parishioner to make a special effort to pray to Mary, particularly the Rosary, during the month of May.  We have so many intentions for which to pray and Mary will intercede with the Lord for all of us.

GRADE 8 STUDENTS (1st Year Confirmation) are reminded that all who have volunteered to help decorate the Hall for the Confirmation Reception are asked to be at the Hall on Sun. May 17 after the 11:45 a.m. Mass.  It will take about an hour.  Students who have volunteered to bring baked goods for Tues., May 19 are asked to have them at the Church by 5:00 p.m. that day.  Those volunteering to be ushers are asked to be at Church no later than 5:45 p.m. and those who have volunteered to help at the Reception should be at the Hall no later than 7:45 p.m. on Tues., May 19.

CONGRATULATIONS to Pat Craig, a member of our Parish, who will receive the EIGHTH ANNUAL ST. PIUS X YOUTH AWARD from Bishop Coleman this Tuesday, May 19.  St. Pius X founded our Diocese of Fall River in 1904.  Bishop Coleman invited the pastor of each parish to nominate one young person who is at least a sophomore in high school and no older than 19, and who has served their parish with "unwavering commitment and dedication" to receive this award.  Pat has done that in many different ways.  Pat represents many young people who give so much to our parish.  They too are deserving of this award.  Family, friends and parishioners are invited to this ceremony which takes place this Tuesday, May 19, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral, Fall River. (see Fr. Jay for directions)

OUR ANNUAL PARISH TRIP JULY 2  to the PAWSOX will be on THURSDAY, JULY 2.  Game starts at 6:05 p.m. and will be FOLLOWED BY A GREAT FIREWORKS DISPLAY. TICKETS ARE LIMITED AND ARE NOW AVAILABLE FOR SALE.  We are "car pooling" to keep costs down.  If you need a ride, let us know and we will provide one for you.  Tickets are $10.00 per person.  Order Forms/Permission Slips are available at the entrances of the Church.  Call Karen at 508-824-3578 to order them and meet with her to pay for them.  Tickets sold on a first come/first served basis.

STEUBENVILLE EAST WEEKEND: We are taking deposits for this great weekend to be held on the Campus of URI from July 31 - Aug. 2.  Those currently in 8th grade up to and including College age students are welcome to experience this Faith filled weekend with about 2000 other young people.  A deposit of $50.00 is needed to secure a place for you.  Payment plans are available.  Fill out a registration form (found at the entrances of Church) and turn it into Karen ASAP.

THE FEAST OF THE ASCENSION OF OUR LORD INTO HEAVEN is this Thursday, May 21.  It is a HOLYDAY OF OBLIGATION.  Catholics have the same responsibility to participate at Mass as they do on Sunday.  Our schedule here at Holy Family is: Vigil Mass: Wed., May 20 at 6:00 p.m..  Masses on Thursday, May 21 at 8:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.  The collection taken up at these Masses will be for the work of the St. Vincent de Paul Society among those in need in our own parish.

HOLY FAMILY VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL for our young children will be held this year from Monday, Aug. 3 - Friday, Aug. 7.  It takes MANY VOLUNTEERS TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN.  People of all ages (teens, young adults, middle age, elders) who are interested in helping are asked to come to an informational meeting in the Church Hall on MONDAY, JUNE 15 AT 7:00 P.M.. HOLY FAMILY SUMMER FAMILY FUN gets underway with a trip to Canobie Lake Park on Thursday, June 25.  The cost will be $20.00 per person for the Park and extra for the bus.  To help defray the cost of the bus, we will be having a Bake Sale.

A MEMORIAL DAY MASS for all those buried in the Taunton Catholic Cemeteries, will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, Taunton on Monday, May 25 at 10:00 a.m.  ALL ARE WELCOME.

"BUILDING TOGETHER OUR FAMILY OF FAITH"   AN UPDATE ON OUR NEW PARISH CENTER!  SAVE THE DATE!!!  Bishop George Coleman has accepted our invitation to come and bless and dedicate our New Parish Center.  He will celebrate the 11:00 a.m. Mass with us on SUNDAY, JUNE 14, the Feast of Corpus Christi, and the blessing and dedication of the Center will follow immediately after the Mass.  PLAN TO BE WITH US FOR THIS JOYFUL AND HISTORICAL DAY IN THE LIFE OF OUR PARISH.  We continue to await final inspections and an occupancy permit to allow us to start setting up operations in the Parish Center.  There is a small chapel where people may make a visit with the Lord when they come to the Center, 11 multi-purpose rooms for use in our Faith Formation Program, meetings and other activities, a room for our St. Vincent de Paul Society to use in their ministry to those in need, Holy Family Hall which will seat 220 people at round tables and 400 plus in auditorium style seating, a beautiful new kitchen to accommodate many social gatherings and the parish offices.  Please continue to pray for a successful conclusion to the construction of this new Center and that its use will help many people grow in their Faith for years to come.  Please continue to pray for our Architect, Dick Jones, as he courageously battles cancer.

OUR ANNUAL CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL FOR THE DIOCESE OF FALL RIVER is underway.  You have hopefully received a letter by this time asking for your assistance in the Appeal.  In the midst of this difficult economic time, please consider the many people who are helped by your generosity.  Just here in the Taunton area, full time Catholic Chaplains at Morton Hospital are funded by the Appeal and the St. Francis Shelter (the homeless shelter in Taunton) is run by our Catholic Social Services, which is funded by the Appeal.  Additionally, the Taunton Area Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) (in which  over 250 of our own young people participated this year), is also a beneficiary of the Appeal.  You may put your donation in the collection basket, mail it, or bring it in person to the Rectory.  Please use the return envelope that was provided in the mailing. A "PLEDGE" (payable monthly, quarterly or semi-annually) would allow you to spread out the payment of your gift over a period of time.  For only 17 cents per day, you can make a  Pledge of $50.00.  For only 33 cents per day, you can Pledge $100.00.  If each family in our parish made a contribution, we could well exceed last year's record total of $41,742.00.  You may use a Visa, Master Card or American Express Card to make your Pledge if that is more convenient.  If you have any questions about the Appeal, please see Fr. Jay. Items such as diapers, size 1 - 5, onesies, formula, childrens' clothes up to size 4, car seats BUT NOT STROLLERS, baby carriers, diaper bags and layette items would be greatly appreciated.  THE GIFTS WILL BE GIVEN TO BIRTHRIGHT OF GREATER TAUNTON which for years has been helping women in crisis pregnancies.  THANKS.

IN SUPPORT OF LIFE: "The theme of this year's Breakfast is most fitting to the difficult time through which our nation is now passing.  Before the fundamental and great challenges which we as a nation are facing, how better to express our patriotism than by celebrating the teachings of our Catholic faith.  The most treasured gift which we as citizens of the United States of America can offer to our country is a faithful Catholic life.  It is the gift which, even though it has often been misunderstood, has brought great strength to our nation, from the time of its founding.
