A NOTE FROM FR. JAY: With the snow storms the past two Sundays, attendance at Mass was obviously down as were, obviously, donations to our collection.  At the same time, our expenses rise, especially with trying to keep the property clean and safe.  Thus, anything people who weren't able to get to Mass can do to make up our loss in revenue, would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES:  Grades 1 - 6 meet this Sun., Jan. 25, from 10:15 - 11:15 a.m. at Martin Middle School.  Grade 9  will have class this Sun., Jan 25, from 5:45 - 8:00 p.m. in the Church Hall.  Grade 7 will have class on Mon., Jan. 26, from 6:15 - 8:00 p.m. in the Church Hall and Grade 8 will have class on Sun., Feb. 8 from 5:45 - 8:00 p.m. in the Church Hall.

ARE YOU AN ADULT (OVER 17) WHO HAS NOT RECEIVED EITHER BAPTISM, EUCHARIST AND/OR CONFIRMATION?  WOULD YOU LIKE TO RECEIVE THESE SACRAMENTS?  There will be classes for this purpose starting Sat., Feb. 7 and running 5 consecutive Saturdays through March 7.  The classes will be here at Holy Family Church Hall from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. on those Saturdays.  If you wish to attend, or at least find out more information about these classes, please contact Fr. "SOUPER-BOWL SUNDAY": Next Sunday, Feb. 1, our Confirmation II Class will be outside of Church after all Masses accepting donations for our local soup kitchen.  On this day, when many will gather with family and friends to watch the Super Bowl, why not remember those in need.  A small donation can go a long way to help feed the hungry.  THANKS.

REHEARSAL FOR GRADE 2 STUDENTS AND PARENTS, in preparation for First Reconciliation, will take place THIS SAT., JAN. 24 and NEXT SAT. JAN. 31, immediately following the 4:00 p.m. Mass.  All grade 2 students and at least one of their parents are expected to be present.

CONGRATULATIONS to two young boys who are being installed as Altar Servers at our 9:00 a.m. Mass this Sunday.  They are Kelvin Kariuki and Cameron LaCourse.  Thanks to their families for supporting them in joining this ministry and special thanks to servers Chris Pluster and Matt Chaves who have spent a great deal of time teaching and preparing these young people to be Altar Servers here at Holy Family.

Our Holy Family Parish has been most successful in reaching out to the homebound, those in nursing facilities and those suffering from illnesses. A CHANCE TO SPEAK UP FOR YOUR BELIEFS: Next weekend, our parishioners are invited to join Catholics throughout the country in sending a message to Congress: "PLEASE OPPOSE THE "FREEDOM OF CHOICE ACT" and retain laws against government funding and promotion of abortion.  You will have the opportunity to sign postcards to your U.S. Representative and two U.S. Senators.  Please plan to participate in this crucial opportunity.  An educational sheet on the "FREEDOM OF CHOICE ACT (FOCA) IS ENCLOSED IN THIS WEEK'S BULLETIN.  A letter from our Bishop, George W. Coleman, asking for us to participate, is also enclosed. There can be no true hope for our country if we do not protect the most innocent among us (the unborn).

ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS are invited to take a box of their own Budget Envelopes home for use in supporting our parish this year.  The amount of money donated is not the important thing: the concept of supporting our parish is what counts.  This is strictly voluntary.  The small boxes are for the elementary students; the larger ones for middle & high school students.  They are available at the table near the stairs to the choir loft and at the side entrance of Church.

A PRAYER FOR OUR NATION:  "Gracious and Loving God, we come to you in humble prayer for the United States of America.  Bless our President. Give him wisdom and strength to serve the American people and lead our country IN WAYS THAT ARE PLEASING TO YOU.  Bless our Congress.  Instill in them knowledge and understanding to enact laws that protect the sanctity of life - from the unborn to the elderly; and promote the good of all people.  Bless the people of the United States.  Make us aware of our responsibilities as citizens to uphold the principles of life, liberty, justice and equality.  Send your Holy Spirit upon our beloved country.  Make us people of faith in time of uncertainty.  Make us people of hope in time of trouble.  Make us people of compassion with those who are less fortunate.  Make us people of peace in our homes, our communities, our country and our world.  AMEN.

SOME FOOD FOR THOUGHT: We all know how the current economy is affecting our financial situation.  But now is not the time to hold back.  As one author, no doubt building on St. Paul, has written, "If you want to experience wealth, you must live in Abundance.  They only way to get there is to become convinced that we have more than we need.  And the best way to do that is to become a giver.  Once we give a bit away and it doesn't make us destitute, we begin to realize that we have more than we absolutely need.  It's only then that we can experience the joy and peace of mind that true wealth provides.  There's a quick way to explain this: GENEROSITY FOSTERS ABUNDANCE."  (Owen Phelps, The Secret of Wealth).  As St. Paul taught the Corinthians and us:  "You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ; rich as he was, he made himself poor for your sake, in order to make you rich by his poverty.  If you are eager to give, God will accept your gift on the basis of what you have to give, not on what you don't have.  (2 Corinthians 8: 9, 12)

HAVE YOU EVER MADE A WILL?  ARE YOU THINKING OF MAKING ONE?  Would you consider leaving something to your parish?  Many people (even recently) have done so here and in other parishes and their generosity has had a lasting effect on many people.  Just a little food for thought.

OUR SECOND COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND is for THE HOME MISSIONS, those parishes in the poorest sections of our country that cannot exist on their own.  Our assistance to them is greatly appreciated.

PLEASE PRAY for all world leaders, especially our new President, for our men and women serving in the military, law enforcement, fire protection and emergency services; for our parishioners who are sick at home  in hospitals or nursing homes, for our architect Dick Jones, and for all our faithful departed, especially Genevieve Lecuyer, whose funeral Mass was celebrated here this past week.  THANKS.
